HR Strange But True!
August 16, 2001

Perhaps air conditioning is rare in German offices. Whatever the reason, the German newspaper Bild reports that a record-temperature heat wave has prompted some workers to simply disrobe.

"My boss doesn't mind this at all," Bild quoted Kirsten Sauer in an article that was accompanied by a picture of the bare-breasted 23-year old saleswoman cooling off in front of a fan in the Berlin clothing store where she works. "He said it was even cool and trendy."

The Reuters news agency reports that Germans have a special fondness for nude bathing and lie by the thousands during heat waves on the Baltic sea beaches and lake shores. Some big city parks, such as the Tiergarten in Berlin and Munich's English Garden, are often filled with nudists in the hot summer weather.
