HR Strange But True!
March 29, 2012

There seems to be no limit to what your laptop can do for you. (Remember the USB-powered blanket.) Now your laptop can actually make your workplace smell better!

Xent®’s “scentdriver,” a USB-powered fragrance diffuser, plugs directly into your computer. The USB diffuser even has a built-in timer. The company boasts that its product can help you focus, work better, improve your concentration, and reenergize.

So, what do people want their personal space smelling like? Tropical Rain Forest, Sakura Blossoms, and Summer Sky are the top fragrances, according to the company.

However, before you go picking out a scent for your office space, you may want to consider the ramifications of having a smelly office (unless you work from home, of course). According to a recent poll, a majority of respondents (76%) reported that they have to occasionally deal with employees’ complaints about a co-worker's perfume or cologne.

Your company may even have a policy regarding fragrances in the office. If not, you may want to consider developing a policy, because there are occasions when the ADA may come into play.

What’s the weirdest thing that has happened to you on the job? Share your story.
