HR Strange But True!
December 15, 2005

Some people attend their company's holiday party simply to see a showcase of embarrassing behavior, and others are sure to oblige--and regret it in the morning. So, what are the top five regrets of office holiday parties?

According to a survey of professional women by WorldWIT, the top regrets are:

  • Drinking too much
  • Forgetting a colleague's name
  • Currying favor with upper management
  • Becoming romantically involved with a colleague, and
  • Getting caught gossiping.

Seventy-five percent of respondents reported that they regret consuming three or more alcoholic beverages. Six percent of those respondents said that they drank so much at an office party that they became ill or vomited.

One out of five women surveyed said they have become romantically involved with a colleague while attending an office party. Of those respondents, 13 percent said that they're still involved with the colleague.

Those who have committed one of the top five office-party indiscretions should be warned: 60 percent of respondents said they changed their opinion of a co-worker after witnessing such a blunder.

WorldWIT, an online community for professional women, conducted the survey among its members.
