HR Strange But True!
October 14, 2005

Three deputies in Linn County, Iowa, are appealing suspensions ranging from 1 to 2 days after they were accused of eating an inmate's candy, the DesMoines Register reports.

One of the suspended deputies, Jim Sorenson, says it was common for deputies to eat candy inmates left behind when they left the jail. However, one inmate called back to ask for candy he had purchased from the jail commissary, but the deputies had already eaten most of it, the newspaper reports. The inmate accused the deputies of stealing the candy.

A fourth deputy has already had his suspension reversed after an appeal, according to the newspaper. The three other deputies are waiting on a decision from the Civil Service Commission on their appeals.
