It seems that HR Strange but True (HRSBT) readers have some strange stories of their own. In the beginning of July, an HRSBT article ran about excuses UK employees gave for being late to work. Bank robberies, comets, and climate change made the list, but what about employees in the U.S.? Are their excuses just as outrageous?
HRSBT readers were asked to send in examples of outrageous excuses they’ve heard employees give for being late to work. Here are some of the responses:
- Employee had to do their child's homework.
- Employee was getting a massage.
- Employee’s cat apparently died ... a cat that everyone in the office knew they didn't have.
One of the most outrageous excuses for being late to work probably got the employee in more trouble with his soon-to-be spouse than their boss (if the excuse was actually true.) According to a HRSBT reader, one employee’s excuse for running late was that he forgot he was getting married!
