Purchasing a four-color, quarter-page recruitment ad in a national magazine requires a lot of thought, planning, and money. Bet you wouldn’t think you’d see such an ad—in Field and Stream! No, the ad isn’t for crewmembers on The Deadliest Catch or a cook for a hunting lodge. It’s for doctors!

The eye-catching ad, of a fisherman casting into a gorgeous sunset, is for AlaskaPhysicanJobs.Net, and the organization is advertising for psychiatrists, cardiologists, rheumatologists, pediatricians, general surgeons, and more for positions in the Fairbanks area.

The recruitment site says “Your Commute May Never Be the Same” as it flashes shots of the gorgeous Alaskan scenery along with “physician perspectives” with photos and mini-résumés of doctors whose hobbies include dog sledding and river rafting.

A list of job descriptions for various specialties is accompanied by the phrase “our physicians are our friends & neighbors” and links to community activities such as ice hockey leagues and “midnight sun safaris.”

Click on Recruitment Process and learn that the site is a run by a group of medical recruiters working collectively for the hospital and local practices. Send in your CV and you may get a site visit including hospital tours, as well as “real estate and community tours.”

This site is so persuasive, medical schools could see a bump in applications from HR people!
