Forget about that slavery thing

A man claims in a lawsuit that Burns International Security Services fired him from his job in Pennsylvania for refusing to remove a Confederate flag and related stickers from his lunch bucket and pickup truck.

The man, Curt Storey, 62, says in the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission suit that he was discriminated against because of what he identifies as his national origin: "Confederate Southern American."

Never mind that he was born and raised in Westmoreland County, Penn.

Since his May 3 firing, Storey has been protesting regularly outside the Sony Technology Center in East Huntingdon Township, about 30 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, where he worked as a Burns guard, the Associated Press reports.

Storey wants to be reinstated to his $8-an-hour job along with back pay and damages. "We'll also be asking for sensitivity training on Confederate American issues, so that people in the workplace know these people are out there and they should not be dealt with in a cavalier fashion," says Kirk Lyons, a North Carolina attorney representing Storey.

Lyons works for the Southern Legal Resources Center, which has represented various white separatist groups and sues on behalf of others who say they have been discriminated against because of their identification with a Confederate heritage.
