HR Strange But True!
December 29, 2011

A New Jersey police officer was arrested for driving an ATV under the influence. What makes this story stranger is that he was drunk for work reasons!

The police officer volunteered to get drunk for a DWI class at the police academy. The officer served as an example of how an intoxicated person responds to sobriety tests.

Apparently he took his role a little too seriously, because later that night—after an officer drove him home—he decided to take his ATV for a spin. He crashed the vehicle while illegally driving on the street, according to the Associated Press.

The officer was taken to the hospital and cited for a DWI.

The question now is whether the police academy could be held partially responsible, notes Legally Weird, a FindLaw blog.
