HR Strange But True!
December 15, 2011

The economic downturn is affecting all walks of life, even royalty!

The queen herself, Queen Elizabeth II, is taking a pay freeze until at least 2015.

According to the Daily Mail, the Queen will receive £30m per year until April 2013; that’s around $46 million.

Under the new agreement, the Queen’s funding will now equal 15 percent of the profits made 2 years previously by the Crown Estate.

In response to the country’s economic situation, as well as her own pay freeze, the Queen is reportedly taking cost saving measures around her workplace—that is Buckingham Palace.

In an interview with ABC News, Ingrid Seward, the editor in chief of Royal Magazine, gave a glimpse into the Queen’s prudent ways:

“You don’t really realize, but the queen is going around Buckingham Palace, turning off the lights, having fewer staff, even turning the heating down. She sometimes even writes letters in her very own fur coat.”
