State:
Commuting

National Summary

With employers and workers facing higher energy costs, there are ways that both can benefit from incentives for workers not to drive to work alone. The federal Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century encourages ridesharing and commuting by mass transit by offering tax benefits to employers and employees. Employers that offer transportation benefit packages have lower absenteeism, increased employee morale, better recruitment and retention results, and the community goodwill created by helping to relieve air pollution and traffic congestion.
