The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA), which became federal law in 1994, is intended to minimize the disadvantages workers face when they temporarily leave their jobs to serve in the armed forces. Within certain boundaries, it protects their leave, their benefits, and their jobs upon return from service. It prohibits discriminating against them on the basis of their service. Final regulations interpreting the Act were published on Dec. 19, 2005.

Notice Requirement

USERRA requires all employers to notify employees of their rights under the Act. This can be accomplished by posting a free notice created by the U.S. Department of Labor. You can download clicking on the image to the right.
