BLR is offering a free training presentation to help employers educate employees about the topic of substance abuse in the workplace.
The training is being offered in connection with Drug-Free Work Week, an annual event emphasizing the importance of drug-free workplace programs. A collaborative effort among the Department of Labor, members of its Drug-Free Workplace Alliance, and other public and private sector organizations, Drug-Free Work Week takes place October 19 to October 25 this year.
In addition to raising awareness about dug-free workplace programs, the purpose of the campaign is to urge workers with alcohol and drug problems to seek help.
The Department of Labor encourages employers and employees to participate. The department suggests that employers use the event as opportunity to:
- Promote their drug-free workplace program, train supervisors,
- Remind employees about the availability of Employee Assistance Programs
- Offer health screenings, and
- Educate workers.
To help employers participate in the event. BLR is offering its popular Substance Abuse in the Workplace: What Employees Need to Know training presentation free.
In 2007, more than 75 percent of illicit drug users age 18 or older were employed full or part time, according to a report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The report found that among the 20.4 million adults with substance dependence or abuse, 12.3 million were employed full time.
This is the second complimentary training presentation BLR has offered to the public this month. Earlier this month, BLR offered customer service training in connection with Customer Service Week. See Free Customer Service Training Course Offered by BLR.
