Although there are no federal laws that regulate employee political activity, employers have the right to regulate and control employee work time. As a result, employers may restrict an employee’s political activity during work time by prohibiting certain activities and behaviors that interfere with the employee’s (or other employees’) work. Employers also need to be aware of issues surrounding political activity by an employer, solicitation for political contributions and visits by candidates.
