HRIS
National Summary
What is an HRIS? An HRIS, or human resources information system, is a technological resource enabling human resources departments to collect and maintain information related to employees, payroll, organizational structure, compensation administration, etc., in one system so the data can be easily accessed, updated, and analyzed for a multitude of general and strategic HR purposes. In the early days of HRIS, these systems were solely used by large companies that could create and maintain their own proprietary systems. However, thanks to growth in the HRIS provider, outsourcing, and consulting markets, the wider availability of affordable business technology, and the cost savings realized by cloud computing, mobile, and Web-based platforms, the benefits of a fully integrated HRIS are now accessible to most employers.
