Novations Group, a global consulting organization, asked HR executives how much their organization would budget for training and development in 11 categories. Nearly half (46 percent) reported that their company will budget more for leadership/executive development and 43 percent will budget more for supervisory/management skills than they did in 2006.
"Greater focus on building management skills and bench strength has been a trend for at least three years," Novations CEO and President Mike Hyter said in a press release. "And it tells us organizations are worried about senior-level turnover and the loss of retirement-ready baby boomers."
Other learning categories that should see a substantive increase include sales/customer service (with 30 percent of executives reporting their employer will spend more time and money on this category), technical training (24 percent), and interpersonal/teamwork (20 percent).
