The San Jose Business Journal reports that the firm released a study last week
that found the big game could cost employers $821.4 million in lost wages because
employee will be chatting about the game during the workday.
The researchers say that it will cost employers $2.59 for every ten minutes
an employee is talking about the game instead of working. The researchers multiplied
that figure by the number of workers who are expected to watch the game--52,870,000.
They then multiplied that number by six, for the five days of workweek before
the game and the Monday following the game, when worker would be most likely
to talk about the game.
