Most Workers Avoid a Dip in the Office Pool for March Madness

Just 21 percent of workers say they have participated in an office pool for the NCAA basketball tournament, and just 13 percent say they will definitely or probably participate in one this year, according to a poll by Harris Interactive.

Among people who say they follow college basketball, 57 percent of respondents said they have participated in an office pool at some point in time, and 35 percent said they will definitely or probably participate in one this year.

Thirty-five percent of men and 9 percent of women say they have participated in an office pool for the tournament.

Harris Interactive conducted the poll between March 8 and 14, 2006 among a nationwide sample of 2,435 U.S. adults, of whom 590 follow college basketball.

Harris Interactive notes that the because betting is illegal in most of the country, it may inhibit response by some respondents.
