Because many organizations today are facing budget cuts they are weary of going green. These folks believe that implementing a green program will cost them more money—but this is a myth. There are many different techniques that you can use to go green that can also boost your bottom line. And isn’t that the goal of any organization?

Most businesses, certainly offices, create a lot of waste. Offices can start saving money immediately by conserving or reducing waste. Recycling is one of the best ways to cut costs. Most businesses throw away large amounts of paper on a regular basis. Instead of throwing away, you might want to consider recycling it instead. Start out by using the paper as efficiently as you can. Instead of just writing on one side of the paper, make sure to completely cover both sides before getting rid of it. By recycling the paper, you might also be able to earn a little bit of money back from the recycling company.

Another effective means of savings is electronic communications. You should consider implementing an electronic communication policy within your company. Try to eliminate as much paper communication as possible.

In some cases, you will have to use paper communication for official business. However, the majority of communication that goes on between workers and you and other businesses, can be done electronically. If you need to get everyone their own e-mail address for business, go ahead and do so. This will significantly reduce costs on paper as well as postage on an annual basis.

There are also many other simple ways to save money by going green: installing compact fluorescent light bulbs, motion-detecting lights and water faucets, and monitoring your thermostat to reduce wasted energy.
