President Signs Executive Order to Increase Diversity in Federal Workplaces

President Obama signed an Executive Order stating that the federal government’s commitment to equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion is critical to its role as an employer, according to a White House update.

The EO gives agencies 90 days to develop strategic plansto encourage a more diverse and inclusive workforce under the leadership of director of the Office for Personnel Management, the chair of the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission, and the President’s Management Council.

EEOC Chair Jacqueline Berrien said that the hope is that the initiative to ensure equal advancement opportunities for all qualified workers beginning with the federal government will spread to the private sector
