Online Training Tool Educates Employers on Understanding War Injuries

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) is offering a free online training tool to help educate employers and employees about traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which DOL says are leading injuries among military veterans who served in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The training, which takes about 45 minutes to complete, is geared toward HR professionals, hiring managers, and supervisors. Among other things, it discusses myths about TBI and PTSD and how the conditions may impact veterans’ employment after their military service.

Developed by DOL’s Office of Disability Employment Policy and Veterans’ Employment and Training Service, the training is aimed at helping veterans’ employers “better understand TBI and PTSD in the workplace and how to support individuals who may be living with these conditions.”

“Typically, awareness and a few simple environmental adaptations are all that is necessary for an employer to benefit from a dedicated, skilled employee who has sacrificed in service to others,” continues the DOL statement.

More information about the training is available on America's Heroes at Work website.
