In the lawsuit, the department's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) alleged that from January 1998 through June 1999, Goodyear, a federal contractor, used a hiring process and selection procedures that discriminated against hundreds of female applicants for entry-level positions.
The OFCCP said the company violated Executive Order 11246, which prohibits federal contractors, federally-assisted construction contractors, and subcontractors from discriminating in employment decisions on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, and national origin.
In settling the lawsuit, the company denied the allegations.
