According to EEOC, Matrix officials told a white supervisor not to hire any more black cleaners to work at a client’s site in Concordville. When the supervisor hired additional black cleaners, Matrix allegedly dismissed her in retaliation. EEOC further alleged that Matrix management officials told black workers to sit in the back of the cafeteria during break times and later banned them from the cafeteria altogether during breaks. Matrix later fired all of the employees at the worksite and replaced them with a non-black cleaning crew, EEOC said.
In addition to the monetary payments, Matrix agreed to refrain from future race discrimination or retaliation; train supervisors and managers about prohibitions against racial discrimination and retaliation; report discrimination complaints at the Concordville work site to the EEOC for 3 years; and post a settlement notice.
