54 Percent Feel Underpaid, According to New Poll

Over half of HR and compensation professionals feel they are underpaid, according to a recent poll. However, while the percentage of respondents who feel they are underpaid is still high (54%), it is lower than the results from two years ago (71%).

The poll asked respondents “How do you feel about your pay?” The results are displayed below:

How do you feel about your pay? 2010
I am underpaid 54%
I am paid just about the right amount 43%
I am overpaid 3%

This year’s poll results show an improvement in the percentage of respondents who feel they are paid adequately. The percentage of respondents who replied that they are paid "just about the right amount" increased from 27 percent in a 2008 poll to 43 percent in 2010.

The results may reflect an improvement in economic conditions. BLR’s 2011 Pay Budget Survey also revealed that while the weakened economy is still affecting pay, organizations and employees are starting to see slight improvements. Read more:
