Bush Budget Calls for Tougher Fines for Child-Labor Violations

The Bush administration's budget proposal for fiscal year 2006 includes recommendations for Congress to raise the penalties for child-labor violations.

The administration wants civil penalties for child labor law violations that result in the death or serious injury of a youth to increase from $11,000 to $50,000.

The budget also proposes that civil penalties for repeat and willful violations rise to $100,000.
