Tuition Assistance Policy
Tuition assistance is a popular benefit and can help engage and retain employees. Employers who offer tuition assistance should have a clear policy on the benefit. Common policies include:
- Prior approval by supervisor
- Time of payment
- Verification of course completion
- Performance standards
In addition, tuition assistance may qualify for tax-free status if provided under an Internal Revenue Code Sec. 127 educational assistance program (EAP) or if the education program being paid for is directly work related.
