HR Strange But True!
August 17, 2006

The Greater Manchester Fire Service in England has suspended four firefighters after one of them went for a spin in a tumble dryer as the others laughed and filmed the stunt, the Scotsman reports.

In the video of the incident, you can see firefighter Andy Bruce sitting inside a large dryer as he packs clothes on the sides to protect him when the machine starts. A colleague then approaches the dryer to close the door and push the start button.

As Bruce tumbles around in the dryer, the three onlookers laugh like hyenas. A few moments later, he emerges from the dryer dizzy--and the others laugh some more.

The fire department found the stunt far more dangerous than funny and suspended all four, who still face a disciplinary hearing, the newspaper reports.

"Following our interviews with the four firefighters involved, due to the serious nature of the incident, the decision has been taken to suspend them until the outcome of the disciplinary hearing," says Deputy County Fire Officer Tony Proctor.
