HR Strange But True!
November 22, 2011

Nearly half of U.S. adults plan to shop online on Cyber Monday, November 28, the Monday after Thanksgiving, instead of shopping in-store on Black Friday, according to a couponcabin.com survey. While this saves shoppers time, it may be putting a dent in your workplace productivity.

To gain insight into Cyber Monday’s effect on businesses, ISACA conducted the 2011 Holiday Shopping on the Job Survey/Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Security Survey.

The survey asked U.S. business and IT professionals to report on the total time an average employee at their enterprise spends shopping online during the holiday season (November to December), and what device and where the shopping takes place. Here are the responses:

The survey findings show that more than half of the time spent shopping will be done from computing devices used for work purposes, a trend called bring your own device (BYOD).

Compared to last year, the majority of respondents (55 percent) predict employees at their organization will do about the same amount of holiday shopping online during work hours, while one in three predict they will do more shopping.

Do employees at your organization shop online during work hours? Take this week's poll and see what other HR and comp professionals are saying this holiday season.
