In his quest to bring good cheer during the holidays, the mall Santa has to withstand a lot of occupational hazards, according to a survey by Auntie Anne's Pretzels.
To find out what the mall Santa's job is like during the holiday season, Auntie Anne's Pretzels polled more than 330 members of the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas (AORBS), an international association of real bearded gentlemen.
Thirty-four percent of respondents said they have been "wet" on by a child. Nearly ninety percent say they have had their beard pulled each day to see if it is real.
- More than 60 percent of mall Santas said they are sneezed or coughed on up to 10 times each day
- 74 percent said they have up to 10 children cry while on their lap each day
- 45 percent of Santas said they see camera "flash" spots more than 25 times a day
Auntie Anne's Pretzels says its survey confirmed that the mall Santa is the hardest working man in retail during the holiday season. The company is offering a Santa Survival Kit, which includes boot polish, hand sanitizer, cherry lip balm, and other items to help the mall Santa through the holidays.
"While Santas' workload increases over the holiday season, we love every minute of our jobs," says Timothy Connaghan, executive director of AORBS.
