HR Strange But True!
May 19, 2003

Courtney Love, who first gained notoriety as wife of the late rocker Kurt Cobain and then became a rock star herself by fronting the band Hole, probably has all the contacts and name recognition she needs to attract candidates for her new band. Yet, she opted recently do things the old-fashioned way, by taking out want ads in newspapers around the world.

"Women required for international rock revolution," begins her full-page ad in one New York newspaper. "Join Courtney Love's touring band and get famous, see the world."

The basic requirements: "Must play bass or guitar (really play), and look like a goddess. No boys."

Love goes on to list some cultural preferences shared by her and those already picked for the band: the clothing line known as Emily the Strange, the Lolita Goth image, the psychedelic '60s bands that comprise the various "Nuggets" CD compilations, and the 1960s movie "Performance," starring Mick Jagger.
