HR Strange But True!
July 16, 2004

A supermarket clerk in Germany has learned that there's got to be a better way to make a buck than staging a fake robbery, complete with hitting yourself over the head.

Reuters reports that the 26-year-old woman, who had been working alone in a store in the state of Bavaria, told police that a masked man had forced her at gunpoint to fill his pockets and several bags with money from the shop's cash box before knocking her unconscious with a blow to her head.

But police became suspicious after medical examinations revealed the woman's head injury didn't match up to her description of the attack. The woman then confessed she had hit herself on the head with a blunt object and stolen the money to pay off debts, Reuters reports.
