We asked our readers to submit their own stories of odd gifts they received or had given. Here is one of our favorites.
“My former boss was well known for her idiosyncrasies, but one Christmas she took the cake. There were 5 of us she wanted to acknowledge. She did so by purchasing (or re-gifting) a place setting of dinnerware—giving each of us one piece. One received the dinner plate (her favorite), one received a cake plate, another a bowl, etc. Did she not think we would wonder why we were given such random gifts that matched each other?
“On another occasion (my birthday) she gave me 3 small gifts: a dusty stuffed animal holding a basket with stale candies, a beanie baby, and another item that was clearly used. I was 50 years old at the time and had no small children or grandchildren.
“Both times, I would have been happier with a card (even an electronic version)!”
Thank you SBT reader; we enjoyed your story. (And we hope you got a better gift this year!)
