HR Strange But True!
May 26, 2006

It's bad enough when you have to take a bathroom break in the middle of a meeting. It's even worse if the meeting is a church service -- and you're the pastor. Worse still is if you happen to be wearing a microphone -- and you forget to turn it off.

The Rev John Hawdon recently made quite a splash with parishioners at Longforgan Parish Church in Dundee, Scotland, when he accidentally left his radio mike on when he stepped out to the loo.

Churchgoers heard Hawdon relieve himself, sigh contentedly, flush the toilet, and then wash his hands, The Sun newspaper reported.

"It was mortifying," a parishioner told The Sun. "Every sound was relayed around the church. We sat totally embarrassed. One or two folk managed a giggle."

"I actually had a 'walk' during the service, as I often do," said Hawdon, who, appropriately, is a "relief minister" at the church. "I simply wasn't aware the microphone was still switched on."
