HR Strange But True!
December 14, 2006

A South African court has fined a man $140 for faking a note from a gynecologist to get some days off from work.

Magistrates in Vereeniging, near Johannesburg, South Africa, ordered Charles Sibindana, 27, to pay $140 for falsifying a document.

According to the Sapa news agency, the man stole a medical certificate from a health center used by his pregnant girlfriend and submitted it to his employer to ask for some days off.

Sibindana apparently was unaware that only women consult a gynecologist.

Magistrate Bruno Van Eeden, who ordered the fine, warned Sibindana "Not to walk around faking sick letters from gynecologists."
