HR Strange But True!
November 22, 2011

A new survey looks at how thankful Americans are this holiday season, and what, if anything, they are thankful for.

Respondents were asked, "This Thanksgiving, do you feel you will have more to be thankful for than a few years ago, less to be thankful for, or about as much to be thankful for as you had then?"

Here are the responses from 2011 compared with those in 2010:

About as much to be thankful for
More to be thankful for
Less to be thankful for
Not sure

The survey also asked respondents how thankful they were for specific items. Despite a bad economy, 61 percent said their work situation. On the other hand, 23 percent were not thankful about their employment situation.

Here is a breakdown of what respondents are thankful for:

  • Health of their family (85%)
  • Family relationships (85%)
  • Technology making it easy to stay in touch with family and friends (74%)
  • Accessibility of good technology (63%)
  • Their own personal economic situation (63%)
  • Work situation (61%)

Harris Interactive surveyed over 2,000 adults online between October 10 and 17, 2011.
