HR Strange But True!
January 20, 2011

Interviews are a chance to get to know a candidate beyond their resume. You can ask an applicant what their greatest accomplishment is, why they want to be a part of your company, and … what tree they would be?

Recently, we ran an HR Strange but True article about the strangest interview questions of 2010. The philosophy of martial arts, ridges on a quarter, and superheroes were among the strangest topics for questions. As it turns out, our readers had some of their own unusual interview questions to add to the list. Here are a couple of our favorites:

“If you were invited to a potluck, what would you bring and why?”

"How do you feel about elevators?” (This one was to get into med school, but we couldn’t leave it out!)

"If you could get rid of one state in the U.S., which state would it be and why?"

“If you were a tree, what would you be and why? Oak, weeping willow, Japanese Maple ...”

Thank you HRSBT readers. We appreciate you sharing your stories with us.
