HR Strange But True!
July 13, 2012

Summer is in full swing, so we decided to report on vacation trends in this week’s HR Strange but True column. Enjoy!

What Can Be Worse than Working?—What would you rather do, mow your lawn or go to work? I guess the size of the lawn may play a part in the decision, but the survey results are still surprising. Only 38 percent picked work over cutting grass.

Who’s More Likely to Take a Vacation?—Who's more like to be on vacation right now, you or your boss? Read this story and find out.

The Boss Is on Holiday: Do Not Disturb—A recent survey reports that 51 percent of chief financial officers (CFO) put down their work laptops, smartphones, and other handy gadgets down and do not check in with the office while on vacation.

Bonus read: In a recent Oswald Letter post, business and leadership blogger Dan Oswald, CEO of BLR, discusses the importance of rest and relaxation while on vacation. Oswald tells readers “You need to put the work aside to fully recharge. It’s way too tempting to take work with you on vacation, but then it’s not really a vacation, is it?” His advise applies to business owners, managers, and employees alike.
