HR Strange But True!
September 15, 2011

We’ve been asking our readers to submit their own strange-but-true stories from the workplace, and we appreciate the responses so far. This week, we’re going to share a few that came in. Enjoy!

Phone interviews, and even webcam interviews, are becoming a popular, cost-effective way to interview candidates.

While some applicants may feel that this alternative interview style puts them at a disadvantage by limiting their ability to connect on a personal level, one candidate proved that you can certainly be personal—too personal!

Here’s their strange-but-true story:

“I was conducting a phone interview for a previous employer when, about 5 minutes into the interview, the candidate said, ‘Hold on a second while I pull up my pants and flush the toilet.’

Sure enough, I heard a FLUSH, and a few seconds later, the candidate returned to the interview and picked right up where she left off!”

Thank you for sharing your story HRSBT reader.
