HR Strange But True!
August 26, 2009

It had to happen in England--a man who stole four boxes of “lager” from a convenience store was identified by the manager when he later turned up for a job interview.

According the Telegraph, not trusting his memory of the shoplifter's face, the store manager checked the security camera footage, then came back to confront the thief, who promptly fled, grabbing more beer on his way out!

Police viewing the tape identified the thief and discovered he was out on a suspended jail term for stealing a laptop during a house burglary and resisting arrest.

When confronted, the thief admitted to stealing the beer but didn't reveal why he applied for a job at a store he had recently burgled. “As applying for jobs, this one ranks with having the most breathtaking cheek ever,'' said one court observer quoted in the story. “It must have taken some brass neck for this man to apply for a job at the store he stole from just days earlier.”
