HR Strange But True!
February 17, 2011

We’ve all heard about perks Google employees, or should we say “Googlers”, enjoy. However, the search engine giant isn’t the only company offering enticing perks to help recruit and retain employees. Here are some unusual perks that may have you wondering if you’re in the office—or on vacation!

Botox at the Office—Chesapeake Energy offers a variety of dermatology services, including Botox injections. In addition, employees also have access to tanning beds and spray tanning services. The company perks aren’t just confined to cosmetics; the campus also boasts a 72,000 square-foot fitness center with a sand volleyball court and an Olympic-sized pool.

Time for a Tune Up—No need to rush to the auto-shop after work if you are a Cisco employee. Workers can drop off their car with mechanics for an oil change.

Mini-Mall—Microsoft’s Redmond Campus has over 20 shops and restaurants, including a spa and a pub! However, shopping, dining, and relaxing aren’t the only things employees can enjoy during their lunch break. Pictures of the Redmond campus show employees playing frisbee and soccer. Talk about a teambuilding exercise!

Doggy Daycare—Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants bring a whole new meaning to “pet-friendly.” Hotel staff can drop off “well-behaved” pets with the company’s onsite “pet care” centers. The company also offers employees veterinary health insurance.

TGIF—Employees at toymakers Hasbro and Mattel enjoy half-days every Friday.

Red or White?—DPR Construction installed wine bars in the firm’s offices for impromptu and planned celebrations. One of the company’s motto’s is “We believe work should be fun and intrinsically satisfying; if we are not enjoying ourselves, we are doing something wrong.” We’ll cheers to that.
