HR Strange But True!
November 22, 2002

The average British office worker spends more than 90 minutes a day gossiping, e-mailing friends, and flirting in the office, according to a newly published survey.

Specifically, the survey of 2,000 people by Halifax Share Dealings found that in a typical working day, an office staffer spends 54 minutes gossiping, 16 minutes flirting, 14 minutes surfing the Internet, nine minutes e-mailing friends and family, and three minutes shopping online.

But here's the most revealing finding: Contrary to popular belief, men and women spend almost equal time gossiping.
